Samantha Walker - Creative Crafters Blog Hop

It is time again for Samantha Walker's Creative Team Blog Hop and giveaway. Samantha Walker will be having a blog hop once a month where her Design Team will be sharing their creations with her brilliant products! If you are coming from the amazingly talented Angie Barrs, welcome! If not, you can start the hop here. I am so excited about this because Jessica Sprague is the sponsor for this month's give away! Read on to see which set and how to win.

I love using fabric in unique ways, including on my scrapbook pages. I look for designers, like Samantha Walker, who put out a collection of fabrics that coordinate together. It makes it easy for someone like me to find fabrics that mix and match for my scrapbooking layouts.

I just think of it like the fabric was paper. When looking for paper, I usually stick with a paper collection and grab two or three patterns I like to build my layout around.

It is the same principle when combining fabric with paper. For this layout, I used two cost effective fat quarters from Samantha Walker's Decadence Cotton Collection.

1. I cut the fabric in about 1" x 2" strips. I tried not to be perfect because i wanted the pieces to look like fabric with frayed edges and all.

2. I used my adhesive to tack it in place on my page. I made sure not to put too much glue since I knew I would be sewing it and i didn't want the needle on my machine to gum up.

3. I then used a heavy duty needle in my sewing machine and sewed across the top with a zig zag stitch. Heavy duty needles can be found at your local sewing/craft store. I got a universal needle pack that had six different heavy duty needles for less than five dollars. I used the "light weight" heavy duty needle. There are also some for denim material that would be too big for this project. So, read the packaging before buying.

To make my fabric stand out on the page, I cut a coffee filter up to make this little ruffle. No fuss. Just cut the circle out of the center of the filter, cut up the side, and glue it down. I made sure the edge was glued down under the flap of the fabric.

I am so thankful my coffee pot stopped working. Otherwise my mom wouldn't have brought over her's with the filters, and I wouldn't have been inspired to make this layout to share with you today. All for the love of coffee. ;)
