When I wanted to decorate my Heidi Swapp Journal Cover, I wanted it to be durable but personal! I wanted to paint it, but didn't want my artwork to be ruined inside a suitcase or purse this summer season. So, I thought vinyl was the next best thing!

To create this pattern, I started to paint with india ink freehand on paper. I loved it so much that I copied my own painting on a scanner and made it a pdf file!
I knew that sometime in the near future, I would want to print my own journal pages with this pattern for the inside. It was then I decided I wanted the handmade dots to be the front cover too!
Here is how to make your own DIY Traveler's Notebook Cover:
1. Open PDF in Photoshop and save it as a JPEG.
2. Use this tutorial by Heidi Swapp to make it a cut file in the Silhouette Studio program.
3. After making it a cut file, cut it with a Silhouette Cameo with black permanent vinyl.
4. Transfer it according to the package directions with transfer paper and then add it to the cover.
If you need a visual, feel free to watch this video tutorial I did of my DIY foiled mug. This time I did not foil the vinyl, although that would have looked beautiful! I just left it as it was and transferred it to the journal cover instead.
