You Were Created to Be Creative
Tuesday, April 26, 2016While at Snap Conference, I was asked how I got started blogging and designing. When I shared my story, I was surprised that so many others had the same one. I didn't feel alone but my story was the same of many creatives.
When I became a mom I gave up all paper crafting, painting, and art. I thought that that my responsibility as a mother didn't give me time for this kind of "hobby". My twin sister introduced me to "blogging" so that I had an outlet to tell my family's story. It was then that I had an online journal of sorts to share my family's photos. Without realizing it, I was trying to be creative around the house by doing DIY projects, before it was cool and YouTube.
Changing light fixtures in an old 1950's home really shouldn't have been done by me. Ha! I use to have to call my brother-in-law to help me fix all my mistakes before my husband came home from work and found the entire house without electricity!
Through my fog of depression, my sister came to me and said, in the nicest way possible, "Jen, you need to scrapbook again. Craft Warehouse is having a Design Team contest. You should enter it." I answered with, "What is a design team?"
So, the night before the deadline I gathered the courage to finish all the projects. It was all because my sister believed in me. Now, I can never go back to that dark place - literally, I had no electricity. Ha! I paint because it is who I am. I was created to be creative.
Create Well: You were created to be creative. So, create!
