Helmar & Momenta - All Things Bright

Today, I wanted to show you a simple canvas kit that you can turn into a simple gift that you can create in under half and hour with the help of Helmar and Momenta!

Momenta has this lovely canvas kit. It comes with the pre-printed canvas already wrapped for you along with a frame, flower chipboard pieces, an orange mat, and gems - which are my favorite because you can never get enough bling!

To start my project out I use a 5x7 photograph and matted it half way with the orange paper with Helmar's 450 Quick Dry. It is a perfect glue to use on canvas! I used other Momenta patterned paper to frame my photo and add some more color to the canvas. For these paper items I used my go-to glue, Helmar's Premium Craft Glue.

To give my chipboard pieces lift, I used Helmar's Scrap Dots! It gives that perfect lift on each layer.

I always use Helmar's 450 Quick Dry on all my rhinestones and alphabet stickers to make dusting a little easier on my embellishments.

This pretty little thing is going into a drop canvas to hang right on the wall!

Create Well: Check out Helmar's blog for more inspiration and a chance to win a prize pack!

Momenta - Sweetie XOXO

Sweetie XOXO, originally uploaded by createoften.

You should never work in a low lit room because then when you wake up in the morning you might find that you placed a navy zipper on your page instead of black. But, then, you might end up liking it better after all. ;)

I got to use my new Fancy Pants clear acrylic pieces that I won at Craft Warehouse for my page challenge. I also punched the number one from a vintage flash card. All the stickers and paper are from Momenta. Really, I love the travel line with these camera stickers. Don't you?

It has started to get colder {and wet} here. The trees are changing color in my front yard and I crave a hot cocoa, with my new comfy pillow, and blanket. But, instead I have been editing photos listening to the cars drive by the house along the wet roads. It's a relaxing sound.

The camp still has beautiful flowers along its flower beds. I think that I agree with a friend when he said that September was the best month of the year. What is your favorite month?

Create Well: Try to create in an environment with plenty of light. Otherwise you might surprise yourself when you look at your project in the morning.

This mini never gets old... lol! Well, at least for me. I actually finished several pages in it and have been waiting patiently to share them with you. There just has been so much inspiration going on here that I can't keep up! ;) That's good right? I remember a few months ago having creative block and it was horrid!

I used a different spray paint on this page and actually didn't like the consistency of it. {Give me my black any day!} But, the different color does look great through the acrylic layers of the book.

I also cut the right side with pinking shears so that the page after it peaks through too.

I got my hair done this last week and I feel like a "new" Jen... Well, my hair style looks almost the same I just have great new layers and dark highlights. After talking with the hairstylist about what I wanted, she said, "You seem like the artsy type. I think I know exactly what you want." That felt good. ;)

You can also see the new blog makeover I did for a friend. She was needing some bloggin' love. I love designing blogs and if you are ever in need of a blog designing class you have to check out Wilna and Kayla Amiee's blog design class (I took one last May) at Little Light Studios. They actually have a self paced class you can take at their site. Check it out if you would like to revamp your blog. (A little warning... this is for those who have and are familiar with Adobe Photoshop.

Create Well: It always feels good to have a makeover...

Momenta - I Love

I Love, originally uploaded by createoften.

The back side of one of my pages in my mini is this layout listing some of the things {I love}. There is something freeing about spray paint on paper. ;) You know, no conforming or controlling where it might need to be on a page. It just goes where it pleases and you have to work around it.

I also used Momenta's heart gems to make a mini garland under my photo. Since I couldn't sew this page (I had already sewn on the other side) I used a pen to create my faux sewing ling between the hearts on the garland.

My journaling reads, "I love a long shower, a peaceful walk, a warm cup of coffee, quiet time with God, I love being me." It felt good to list the things I love to do. I want my family after me to know what I loved...

Create Well: What do you love?

Momenta - Create Beauty

Create Beauty, originally uploaded by createoften.

It has rained for the last few days here and I have to say that I love it. I love living in a place where the seasons change. It is also wonderful to have a God who knows exactly when my garden needed someone to water it {and knew I wasn't able to do it}. ;)

This page shows the layers underneath the acrylic page. I was so excited to use some re-purposed items given to me. I used a pattern for the background and zipper as one of the layers under the papers and ribbon. {sigh!} I am totally going to use this technique again!

I have begun to accept sponsors on my blog. To become a sponsor and have your blog or business listed on my sidebar, check out this link for details!

Create Well: Use items in your sewing kit on your page. Try thread, zippers, bias tape, etc...

Momenta - Wedding White

Wedding White, originally uploaded by createoften.

I created this 8x8 frame using the same paper flowers that I have been doing lately. A friend got married this last weekend. Don't you love creating a handmade gift? I created this using Momenta's Pure Textured Cardstock {my favorite}. I had a hard time matching the centers of the flowers and decided to add a small Prima flower to each center to keep unity. I also ran some of the cardstock through my Texture Boutique by Sizzix. I used a swiss dot template and my beloved Tim Holtz Distress Textured templates too.

The wedding was beautiful. Dave and I were able to go together for a date night. ;) It was nice going to a wedding together and just being guests. ;)

Create Well: Create a handmade gift for the next wedding you go to. It will stand out from the blenders and coffee makers.

Momenta - Just My Type

Just My Type, originally uploaded by createoften.

Supplies – Cardstock: Momenta Vibrant Textured Cardstock PA-1033 & Pure Textured Cardstock PA- 1036; Patterned Paper: Momenta Birthday Wishes Paper Pad PA-1828; Alphas: ST-2561 & ST-3190; Punch: Martha Stewart; Other: vintage lace, hymnal script, Pride & Prejudice script, spray paint, and thread

I love antique fairs. This year, I haven't been as much as I would have liked. But, last year, Becca and I were able to go to a few. I bring my camera along just to capture those sweet things that I would love to own. This type writer was beautiful at the Coburg Antique Fair. I totally could have taken it home... that is if the price tag was more reasonable. ;)

Create Often: Feel free to scrapbook those pictures that help tell a story even though your subject may not be in the photo.

Momenta - Wonder Necklace

Wonder Necklace, originally uploaded by createoften.

Supplies -  Textured Cardstock (white, yellow, and striped): Momenta Pure: PA-1036; Punches: EK Success; Resin & Pendant: Magic Glos by Lisa Pavelka; Other: modge podge, vintage script, string of beads, necklace chain, jump rings, and spray paint

Art in miniature takes just as much time and effort for me as if I was doing a 12x12 page spread! Although this pendant is much smaller, it is easier to use and perfect for your 1" circle punch! {cutting and cts do not mix}

I purchased this pre-strung necklace, chain, the pendant, and I was ready to go!

I actually placed the pendant on the chain before filling it with resin. It was a lot easier to work with it that way.

Create Well: Purchase a pre-strung necklace and add to it to make a one-of-a-kind piece!

Momenta - Blush Flower Ring

Polymer Clay, DIY Ring, Resin Rings, Flower Rings, Polymer Clay Jewelry, Handmade Jewelry

Blush Flower Ring, originally uploaded by createoften.

Supplies - Polymer Clay: Sculpey Pink Pearl; Resin: Magic Glos by Lisa Pavelka; Rhinestones: Momenta Black and White ST- 3056; Adhesive: E-6000 & Super Glue; Other: Adjustable Ring Back (etsy.com), leaf cookie cutter, and UV 9 Volt Lamp

Scrapbooking rhinestones or gems are very universal! Try using them in the middle of a polymer clay flower for some bling on a ring or broach.

To make this one here are the instructions...

Roll out your polymer clay about ¼”. Also save a small piece to make a small ½” ball. Roll the ball and then flatten it to use it as your base.

Using a small leaf cookie cutter cut out about 12 leaves (I used my son’s flower cookie cutter but you can buy leaf shapes at your local craft store in the clay section). Take each leaf and place in your hand. You can use a clay tool for this or like me I just used my finger to push the clay out in my palm. Shape the leaf into a petal like shape and curl the ends a little. Push the end of the petal onto the base. Continue doing this step until you have layered the petals around the base.

Now you need to do the four small petals on the top. Cut two leaves from the rolled out clay. Cut them in half. Then press them in your palm and squeeze one end and pinch the end. Press it into the top of the flower. Do the same for the other three and cluster them together on the top of the flower.

Bake the flower on a non-stick craft sheet according to manufactures instructions. The flower will still be flexible when removed from the oven. Do not touch until it cools. When it cools then, it will harden.

Place the flower on a 3x5 card. Use the resin according to the manufactures instructions. Make sure you cover all areas of the flower. Place the card with the flower on it (makes an easy way to carry the flower) in the UV 9 Volt Lamp for 3-6 minutes.

Glue the rhinestones with E-6000 to the center of the flower hiding the seams. Use E-6000 and glue the flower to a ring base. Place a little bit of Super Glue around the edges of the ring base for extra strength. Let it dry overnight before wearing.

Create Well: Use your stash to add to other projects you are working on. It doesn't break the budget!

Momenta - Pure Pendant & Ring

Supplies – Textured Cardstock: Momenta Pure PA-1036; Jewelry Blank: Amate Studios; Resin: Magic-Glos by Lisa Pavelka; Other: 9 Volt UV Lamp, modge podge, E-6000 Adhesive, & rhinestones

So this last weekend I finally got the 9 Volt UV Lamp I have been waiting patiently to go on sale. {sigh! so in love with it} You know the do-not-look-at-it-while-it-is-on kind of love. ;)

Supplies – Textured Cardstock: Momenta Pure PA-1036; Jewelry Blank: Amate Studios; Resin: Magic-Glos by Lisa Pavelka; Other: 9 Volt UV Lamp, modge podge, E-6000 Adhesive, & rhinestones

I used Momenta's Pure Textured Cardstock for the pattern inside the pendant and ring. I then filled it with resin. I love this look so much. It being my first try, I think it was a pretty easy project. I just need to learn how to get less air bubbles next time. ;)

Create Well: Don't be afraid to try a new technique or project. Maybe there is something you have wanted to learn but just afraid to give it a go! Go for it! You may find out you like it more than you imagined!

Momenta - White Embossed Shadow Box

White Embossed Shadow Box, originally uploaded by createoften.

Supplies – Textured Cardstock: Momenta PA 1036; Punches: Punch Bunch (starburst), Marvy Uchida (flower), EK Success (large butterfly and small butterfly), and Martha Stewart (medium butterfly); Rhinestones: Momenta Black & White ST-3056; Embossing Folders: Tim Holtz Distress Embossing Folder by Sizzix & Swiss Dots by Cuttlebug; Other: 8x8 Shadow box frame, Texture Boutique by Sizzix, doily, & spray paint

I really wanted to create something that would display this picture, since it is my new favorite of my sister and my brother-in-law. I got this great 8x8 shadow frame from Craft Warehouse and took the glass out to place the project in.

I love Momenta's textured cardstock and this off white was perfect to create an elegant layout. I finally used my new Tim Holtz textured embossing plate. Then I created some flowers and embossed butterflies.

I love how it turned out. Stay tuned in for the tutorial on how I created some of the embellishments for this project at the Momenta blog soon!

Create Well: Challenge yourself to use the same piece of paper for your entire project. The results will be dramatic!

Momenta - Always Us

Always Us, originally uploaded by createoften. You can also find more photos of this layout here.

I used this photo again for a Momenta project last week. I think my new favorite product from Momenta is this stencil. It was so much fun to add to this page. Yet, I can think of several layered projects I want to do with this! Just to add texture {aren't they great?}

Momenta is also having a blog {celebration}! They just started a blog and will have projects posting all weekend long! Check it out!

Create Well: Whatever you do this weekend, celebrate!

Momenta - You Make My Heart Flutter

You Make My Heart Flutter, originally uploaded by createoften.

I have been having a blast with Momenta's products this week. In this layout I used another stencil, this one a larger alphabet, with spray paint.

This photo, of my brother-in-law and sister, is one of my favorites. There are hiking trails where we live and you can get right up into the forest. At dusk, the light is just perfect through the trees.

For those who have been waiting patiently, the random winner of the vintage Pride and Prejudice paperback is...

I am excited to share that I will be starting a new series at Teach Well... Teach Often beginning next week! I am always inspired by children's literature. Whether it be the writing or the creative illustrations I seem to be drawn to the new books coming out this year! Starting next week I will be having a guest author or illustrator featured! I can't wait to share with your our first guest, Mara Rockliff, the author of The Busiest Street in Town. (This new series will not effect the guest designers that will be featured about once a week here.)

I have also begun my design terms for Craft Warehouse and Momenta! This layout is using Momenta's products. I had a blast with this yellow patterned paper.

I used their stencils to create a watercolor look. What I loved about this paper is that the pattern made a resist to the paint. So you can actually see the pattern in the purple paint.

To get this look - Place your stencil on the paper. Put paper towels around the edge of the stencil and then also cover your entire layout with a good layer of paper towels as well. Place liquid watercolor in a spray bottle. Put a small amount of water in the bottle. Spray your layout. Quickly roll an entire roll of paper towels across your page to get access of water color off your page as soon as possible. Let it dry completely or quicken the process with a heat gun.

Create Well: Experiment with patterned paper and watercolor to see what patterns resist or not. Use what you like on your next layout!
