Guest Designer - Shaela Odd

Welcome this week's guest designer, Shaela Odd. Shaela's designs are beautiful, crisp, and fresh. She can be found designing for Paper Makeup Stamps and is the team leader for the Craft Warehouse Scrapbook Design Team. Here's what Shaela had to say:
Hi everyone! My name is Shaela Odd. I've been scrapbooking since high school, but didn't really get into it until the huge transformation it took several years ago (you know, the one where they stopped using cheesy die cuts and stickers). I used to describe my style as "clean and simple," but it has morphed into a whole lot more. I still like clean, straight lines, but I also love the messy, cluttered look at times. It all depends on my mood and what I'm scrapping about.
I'm inspired by just about everything. A beautiful photograph, interior design magazines, my kids, my husband, my music – I see or hear something and think, I want to capture that, right there. Sometimes what I want to capture is something random and totally unrelated to my life. Sometimes it’s the way I feel, or a memory, or just an everyday moment. If it makes me think, Someday I want to remember this, then I'm going to scrap about it.

I am totally awed and inspired by Ali Edwards – I love everything about who she is and what she does, and I love that she's all about capturing stories; because that's what's important to me. But I also know a lot of non-celebrity designers who amaze and inspire me everyday through their blogs and galleries.

I have no favorites when it comes to my tools and supplies. I go through phases when I lean towards certain colors or certain techniques, or use certain tools over and over again. But that's what I love about scrapbooking: there are no boundaries, and an almost endless amount of supplies, which means that I can shake things up as often as I like. This keeps me from getting bored and allows me to continue creating.

My creative process always starts with the story. There is always something to tell, and that's usually the thing I want to remember. I don't scrapbook pictures; I scrapbook moments. If there's something I want to remember, I write out the journaling and then find photos to accompany it. If I don't have any, I usually take some. Then I plan out my page: where the photos and journaling will go, what paper to use, etc. Once I sit down and put it all together I'm usually always happy with the end result, because no matter what the page might look like, the memory I wanted to preserve is right there.
