I have had a lot of questions asked about how I use Instagram; how I print my Instagram photos; and where I get the inspiration for my December Daily advent activities. I decided to share my process at Heidi's blog today. But, as for the inspiration for the advent activities I do every year, I thought I would share that here.
I was a preschool teacher for ten years before I became a stay at home mom. During those years, I created my own lesson plans. I taught thematically, which means I changed my classroom's theme monthly. For the first four years teaching, I had could not repeat my craft projects and had to come up with fresh material every year. There were a lot of really awesome projects I taught (along with my fair share of major bombers)!
I have taken some of my favorite lessons, books, craft projects, RAK, and activities typed them and printed them out. I cut them into strips and place them inside our advent along with a Hershey Kiss.
Some activities I love to do every year (or every other year) are:
1. Purchase a new ornament for the tree.
2. Go to the craft store and pick out an ornament to paint for the family. Every family member gets a new ornament for their tree (we have been doing this for four years now)!
3. Watch the Polar Express in pjs and have hot cocoa. The golden train ticket is in the advent.
4. Drive through Christmas Lights Lane.
5. Decorate the Christmas tree. I decorate all the breakables the night before. Then, all he has are the unbreakable to add to the tree. This also keeps him from running in circles around me screaming from excitement.
6. The Candy Cane Parable Day.
